About Starfish · Norwich design studio

Two designers,
thirty years each

Starfish is run by Nick Stone and Matthew Johnson. We started the studio in 2000 after working in production design in print studios through the 1990s, and we have built websites since 2003.

How we work

Quality design, in a no-nonsense way

We work in many areas of the craft: branding, logo design, general design, graphics, publicity materials, advertising, exhibition and display, and visual arts installations.

We can build from your content or help you create it, including visual identity, copy, photography and illustration. We understand how good design works and how to avoid the common mistakes that hamper a communication strategy.

We tailor our services to your budget, whether that is print design and management, web design, display services, project management, installations, exhibitions or consultancy.

Since 2026 we also design and build custom web apps and promotional games, using modern AI development tools to build quickly while every screen is designed, checked and supported by us.

All sectors

Our work spans business start-ups, SMEs and large organisations, across the public, voluntary and commercial sectors.

Heritage and museums

We create whole exhibitions from scratch as designers and project managers, including research, writing, editing, archive and picture search, with reliable partners for production.

Research and installations

Picture and story research, content, and installations and displays of every kind, fixed, mobile or pop-up, whatever the budget.

Publishing and poetry

We know how publishing works, especially poetry on limited budgets, and create beautiful books for first-time authors and established lines.
